In this conversation between old friends, Filiz Telek, Bayo Akomolafe and Aerin Dunford will explore the ways in which grief is a form of fugitivity. Within the context of late-stage capitalism and the demise of the promises of modernity, grief and death are still seen as taboo. Grief has become pathologized and medicalized within the dominant socio-political landscape. Many cultures have lost their connections to the land, to the body, and to ritual.

But what if grief is trying to do something with us?

What if grief is trying to remake us?

What if grief takes us off the racetrack of white modernity to a pitstop that allows us to world other worlds?

In this session, we will explore how we can practice being with and listening to grief as a force that infuses all of our lives.

Bayo Akomolafe 

İnsan ötesi alemde Yoruba halkıyla kök salmış olan Bayo Akomolafe (Ph.D.) Alethea Aanya ve Kyah Jayden Abayomi’nin babası, Ije’nin minnettar yaşam arkadaşı, oğul ve kardeştir. Uluslararası çapta tanınan bir konuşmacı, post hümanist düşünür, şair, öğretmen, entelektüel ve deneme yazarıdır. “These Wilds Beyond our Fences: Letters to My Daughter on Humanity’s Search for Home” (North Atlantic Books) ve “We Will Tell Our Own Story: The Lions of Africa Speak” adlı iki kitabı vardır. 

Bayo Akomolafe, The Emergence Network’ün kurucusudur. The Emergence Network insanlık olarak karşı karşıya olduğumuz kritik toplumsal sorunlara yanıt olarak toplulukları yeni yollarla bir araya getirmeyi amaçlayan dünya çapında bir girişimdir. Ayrıca, aktivizm ötesi bir kurs / festival / etkinlik olan “‘We Will Dance with Mountains”ın (“Dağlarla Dans Edeceğiz”in) ev sahibidir. Akomolafe, Kaliforniya Pacifica Graduate Institute’de ders vermektedir.

Bayo Akomolafe (Ph.D.), rooted with the Yoruba people in a more-than-human world, is the father to Alethea Aanya and Kyah Jayden Abayomi, the grateful life-partner to Ije, son and brother. A widely celebrated international speaker, posthumanist thinker, poet, teacher, public intellectual, essayist, and author of two books, These Wilds Beyond our Fences: Letters to My Daughter on Humanity’s Search for Home (North Atlantic Books) & We Will Tell our Own Story: The Lions of Africa Speak, Bayo Akomolafe is the Founder of The Emergence Network, a planet-wide initiative that seeks to convene communities in new ways in response to the critical, civilizational challenges we face as a species. He is host of the postactivist course/festival/event, ‘We Will Dance with Mountains’. He currently lectures at Pacifica Graduate Institute, California. 

Aerin Dunford

Aerin Dunford, insanları, fikirleri ve organizasyonları bir araya getiren sosyal ağ örücüdür. Yazar, ileri dönüşüm sanatçısı, şehir bahçıvanı ve yoga eğitmenidir. Bu tuhaf zamanlarda Batının değer sistemlerini ve telkinini fark ederek zihnin özgürleştirilmesinin hayati önem taşıdığını düşünüyor. Aerin, The Emergence Network’ün üst ağ örücüsü olarak, post aktivizm kavramı etrafında deneyimler ve pratikler geliştirmek için alan tutuyor ve karşılaştığımız krizlere verdiğimiz yanıtların genellikle bu krizlere yol açan koşulları yeniden ürettiğini açığa çıkaran çarpıcı sorular soruyor. 

Aerin, 2018’de oğlunun ölü doğumunun ardından, yasla yeni yollar aracılığıyla çalışmanın çağrısını duyarak insanları keder üzerine birlikte düşünmeye, yazmaya ve kaybı birlikte sindirmek üzere araya getirmeye başlamıştır.

Aerin Dunford is a network-weaver and connector of people, ideas and organizations. She’s a writer, upcycling artist, urban gardener and yoga instructor. She believes that the work of unlearning and unpacking Western value-systems and indoctrination, and decolonizing the mind are vitally important in these strange endtimes. Aerin is the Lead Weaver at ten (The Emergence Network) working to cultivate the ground for experiments and practice around the notion of postactivism and asking poignant questions about the way that human response to the crises we face often reproduce the very conditions that have led to those crises. Since the death and stillbirth of her son in 2018, Aerin has been called to work with grief in new ways; she has been reflecting, writing and convening others to metabolize loss together.
