Almanca weltschmerz kelimesi “dünya ağrısı” veya “dünya yorgunluğu” anlamına geliyor. Dünya sorunları karşısında kendimizi yetersiz hissederken bireysel acılarımızın dünyanın acılarıyla bağlantılı olduğu anlamını taşır. Dünyayı sıkıntıya sokan şey bizi de sıkıntıya sokar ve diğerlerinin nasıl acı çektiğini hissetmek için şahsen trajik koşullarda olmamıza gerek yok. Dünyadaki acı ve yastan derinden etkilenebiliriz çünkü temel empatik nitelikler insan olmanın bir parçasıdır. Sevdiğimiz birinin acı çektiğini gördüğümüzde daha yüksek düzeyde stres ve endişe hissederiz; aynı zamanda bir yabancının acı çektiğini veya korktuğunu gördüğümüzde de bir ölçüde aynı hisleri yaşarız. Sadece anlamakla kalmıyoruz, aynı zamanda tüm insanların ayrılmaz bir şekilde birbirine bağlı olduğunu ve her bir kişinin çektiği acıların kolaylıkla kendi acılarımıza dönüşebileceğini de fark edebiliyoruz. Nihayetinde yasın, yaşamda hayati bir unsur olduğu, sadece kalbi şekillendirmekle kalmayıp aynı zamanda onu açan ve içimizdeki insani cevheri çıkaran bir tür içsel şifa olduğu ortaya çıkıyor. Hepimiz bu yolda birlikteyiz, bilgisizce değil, yaşam ve ölüm yolunda birlikte yürüdüğümüz ve her birimizin korunmaya ve kutsanmaya ihtiyacı olduğu şeklindeki kadim anlayışla, bu yolda yürüyoruz.

MICHAEL MEADE, D.H.L., tanınmış bir hikaye anlatıcısı, yazar ve mitoloji, antropoloji ve psikoloji alanında uzmandır. Hipnotik hikaye anlatımını, kent hayatına özgü bir anlayışı  ve antik mitlerin büyüleyici yorumlarını kültürler arası ritüellere ilişkin derin bilgisiyle birleştirmektedir. The Road of Life and Death

The German word weltschmerz translates as “world pain” or “world weariness.” It carries the sense that while we feel inadequate in the face of world troubles, our individual pain is linked to the pain of the world. What troubles the world also troubles us and we don’t have to be in tragic circumstances ourselves to feel how others are suffering. We can be deeply affected by the pain and grief in the world because basic empathetic qualities are part of being human. We feel heightened levels of stress and worry when we see a loved one suffering, but also to some degree when a stranger is suffering or in fear. We not only sympathize but can realize that all humans are inextricably linked to each other, and that each person’s suffering easily could become our own suffering. Ultimately, grief turns out to be a vital element in life, a form of inner medicine that not only shapes the heart, but also opens it and makes us more genuinely human. We are all in this together, not in some naive way, but in the old way of understanding that we are all walking the road of life and death together, and we each need protection and blessing.

MICHAEL MEADE, D.H.L., is a renowned storyteller, author, and scholar of mythology, anthropology, and psychology.
